Where is The Simpsons Springfield , Matt Groening spills all

After 23 years of entertaining millions of familys and fans worldwide , the location of "Springfield", home to Americas favourite family "The Simpsons" has been revealed by the shows Creator Matt Groening .






After 23 years of secrecy , the simpsons creator Matt Groening has finally broken his silence on where the Simpsons home town Springfield is actually located .

Mr. Groening unveiled the answer to the 23 year long secret to fans in an interview with "Smithsonian Magazine" for their May issue . So where where is the town located ? The answer is Springfield , Oregon , not far from Matt Groenings childhood town of Portland .

Mr. Groening goes into more detail explaining that he chose Springfield because it was one of Americas most common place names and because he was a fan of the the hit 1950s show "Frank Knows best" , which also used the place name Springfield . Mr. Groening believed he would get viewers arguing over where Springfield was .

"I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the US" .
"In anticipation of the success of the show , I thought , this will be cool , everyone will think its their springfield ". "And they do".

The Simpsons have enjoyed huge success for ove rtwo decades now on the small and big screen , winning 27 Emmy Awards and getting their own star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame" . The show even manged to create a new word (D'OH) a word Homer is famous for uttering was added to the 2011 edition of the Oxford English Dictionary .
