The 5th season of tvs most loved drama AMC's "Mad Men" returned Sunday night after taking a risky 17 month break and pulled in 3.5 million viewers .
Thats almost a 22% increase on the Season 4 premiere which had 2.4 million viewers , the series highest until sunday. "Mad Men's" success is probably down to the fact there is just no other show thats anything like it on telivison , this seems to be the way to go if you want a popular good quality show , other unique shows that spring to mind are LOST , The Walking Dead and Spartacus Vengence . All big hits .
However the thing that proves this show has quality is that it took a 17 month break as noted above , and still held a huge audience . There is just somthing about Cold War era Western Society that attracts us so much (probably the fact our Parents and Grandparents were not as well behaved as we thought ) .
An example of a show that took a break like this before is Caprica . At the time Caprica a much anticipated show (being a prequel to Syfy's captivating Battlestar Galactica ) had excellent stories but the show took a very long mid season break and lost a huge chunk of audience. Leading to a cancelation by Syfy executives .
Mad Men is the kind of show that people WILL wait to see . So far the premiere has gotten everything from Very Good to Excellent reviews ,very good being the closest to bad this show gets . With a audience on edge this show is guaranteed to continue to impress this season and probably grow its audience in the next few weeks .
"AMC" must be swimming in cash owning the rights to Mad Men and The Walking Dead .
